Emerald Dragon ETA
Just a small update. Things are progressing fine. I finished all of the previously pending work. These two screenshots are from the Casino text which was the last bit of hacking work that needed to be done on the game. It really was an entirely separate mini game and required all new hacking. The original routine used a tilemap based font. The control codes were really wicked to convert into something usable with a VWF. However, I got the job done and now we have left all that behind us.
Unfortunately, only one of the beta testers have finished the game so far. Others cited delays due to December end of semester exams in their schooling. I have fixed all discovered bugs reported so far, however I’d like to wait for additional testers to finish. A final test will also be conducted on the real hardware by a special tester.
This past week, I also added my traditional Easter egg of myself in the game. I made a new custom sprite that I’m pretty proud of. It’s amazing I could produce anything resembling a person to begin with let alone something that looks half decent! ;)
In the meantime, while I wait for testing to finish up, I’ll be tinkering around with some code for the intro and a new musical composition. I eventually have to also write the dreaded readme file, which I always put off way too long. I really don’t like writing them.
So, what is the ETA of Emerald Dragon? I’m shooting for a January release, but that’s going to depend on the testers and likelihood of any additional issues being discovered by them and on the real hardware.
Be patient. The work’s all done. We’re just testing it to make sure it’s in the best condition possible. :)
Merry Christmas from Absolute Zero!
We proudly present v1.0 of the Tales of Phantasia PSX translation patch!
All you need to supply is your .bin or .img rip of Tales of Phantasia and the attached custom patcher will take care of the rest. Since it would seem this cannot be overstated, the patched game is fully compatible with real hardware. Please be sure to check the readme, which, among a complete patching procedure and other useful notes, also contains important information regarding emulator and PSP-emulation specific glitches (these are emulator glitches, not patch bugs).
Please consult the readme before asking specific questions about patching or related topics.
We thank you for your support and hope that you enjoy Tales of Phantasia PSX!

Beta Testing Begins
As of today, December 10th, beta testing on Tales of Phantasia PSX has officially begun. It’s been a while since our last update, so let me bring you up to speed on the newest stuff.
Script Translation and Editing - 100%
Skit Translation and Editing - 100%
New Features!
Selectable ability names (English vs. Romanized Japanese)
Splash screen and anti-eBay/P2P screen
Complete Patcher (made by Gemini specifically for this project)
Patches the game in 2-5 minutes depending on your system
So, there you have it. Most of this stuff has been done for several weeks. But there were internal alphas and some fixes to do, so nothing much that we could update people on. Why am I only posting two pictures? The truth is that I have TONS of them. But frankly, why would I want to tempt you with the game? I mean, before long, I’m just going to give it to you. ^_^
The two pictures here demonstrate the Ability Name Selector in action.
Fixes a bug in the PowerPC Macintosh OS X version that made previous versions incompatible with Leopard. It changes only 10 bytes of code from 3.0.3, so I'm optimistic it won't introduce further problems. The same fix is in the PowerPC version for Macintosh OS 9 and earlier. There is no change in the Intel Macintosh OS X version from 3.0.3, or the versions for other operating systems, other than to change the version number.

Tales of Phantasia for the Playstation is almost here, guys, in English. After 2 months of work, we are proud to announce to you that the translation completion has passed the halfway mark. In other words, we have all of the Present, about half of the Past, and more than half of the Future completely translated. The hacking itself is complete and only a few bug fixes and some layout reworks remain for the in-game menus. As we’ve repeatedly stated, this patch will be fully compatible with real hardware on its first release, like my SOTN Italian translation was.

I last left off trying to better organize and rebuild the project work so far. I did just that. I redid some of the script engine hacking and took care of all the bugs that used to be there. The project was completely reorganized and is probably now my best organized project yet. Pat on the back to Nightcrawler for getting his act together!
After that, I tackled coding the inserter module for the latest generation of my personal hacking utility, which already contains a flexible dumping/insertion core and GUI shell interface to work with multiple projects. I was dreading and procrastinating this step due to the text storage of Emerald Dragon, however it turned out to be much less painful than I originally thought. I came up with a pointer relocation hack that had no observable side effects to simplify the process.
I completed the inserter and went to work inserting and testing the script. I’ve gone through and inserted about 20% so far and plan to hit 100% by the end of this coming weekend. Once I’m confident the entire script can be inserter with no issues, we’ll be good to start beta testing in this area.
In other news, I had finished all the non dialog hacking with my previously released patch. However, the latest changes made to the project has broken that work. So, I must go through and touch it up to conform to the new standards I put in place. It shouldn’t take too long, but it will delay the start of beta testing.
So, that pretty much sums it up. Things are coming along great and early game tests of the inserted script indicates a smaller number of issues, as opposed to Wozz, that will need to be looked at during beta testing. If all goes well, some rough first round beta testing by myself should be able to begin in a week or two. A full on beta test start will depend on how many obvious issues I come across during my rough run through.
However you look at it, the end of the Emerald Dragon project is in site. Keep checking back for additional information. I expect to have some mini updates in the forum soon.

There is now a Mini vMac 3.0.3 beta. Beta means no new features will be added before the official release, which will hopefully be soon. Many more features could be added, but it has been too long since the last official release.

Alright, it's been a long time since the last update but really not much has been going on. We just recently finished re-designing the front panel control board to reduce the size a bit and to substitute through-hole parts for most of the SMT parts. I think that I'll have a test article in a few w...

- support for Framebuffer objets so the option "Hires framebuffer" now works under linux too (this required also a fix in glide64 itself , since we're still using wonder +, Gonetz told me it has been fixed already in wonder ++ though)
